Explore Your World
Boredom is the root of all evil according to Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard, though he was speaking more about the absence of meaning, I feel like the statement is still applicable. In my life, that is definitely the case.
As human beings, we crave stimulation, but more importantly, we crave a sense of adventure. Nevertheless, going on an epic quest to find meaning in a faraway shrine in India, for example, might be out of the question for those of us with modest budgets. Those monetary concerns compel us to make our own adventures or else risk falling into tedium.
Here is a list of some adventures you can probably create in your own back yard:
1. Take a Hike:
I can’t say enough about the benefits of taking yourself out of your environment and going somewhere new. You can discover all sorts of hidden treasures by exploring local grounds and wildlife areas. With thousands of parks, wildlife refuges and undeveloped land in the U.S. alone, there is no excuse why you can’t find something unexpected near you.
2. Host a Food Tasting:
Have you ever wanted to taste 25 types of cheese at once? How about wine? By hosting a tasting, you can try the food you’ve always been curious about along with making new friends as a bonus. Be adventurous and enrich yourself and your taste buds!
3. Build Your Own Fun:
If you like to work with your hands, you can try building something you’ve never built before. For example, if you don’t have a pool, you can make a homemade slip ‘n slide with a roll of trash bags, a running hose and dish soap. You and your friends can keep cool all summer long without ever leaving your backyard.
4. Set a Record:
There are plenty of records left to set in the world. Check out the Guinness World Records to see what sort of challenges other people are doing and if you might be able to beat them. It’ll be a great memory and something to brag to your friends about.
5. Try an International Scavenger Hunt:
is an interesting activity to undertake. Anyone can participate, and if you download the app, you can find any one of their 2.6 million geocaches around the world. You never know, it could be fun playing a game with millions of other humans you’ve never met before!
6. Try a Charity Scavenger Hunt:
is a scavenger hunt that takes place once a year with people from all over the world and then donates all entry fees to the charity Random Acts of Kindness. Such tasks include hugging a veteran, donating blood and dressing an elderly man (75 or older) as a girl from the Jersey Shore. If you win, you get to hang out with Supernatural star Misha Collins on an exotic destination vacation. The unique nature of the event is sure to turn every August into a week-long vacation.
7. Follow the Rainbow:
We’ve all heard the phrase, “There is gold at the end of a rainbow.” Well, now is the time you should actually try to find the end. The next time you see a rainbow, follow it for a while and see where it takes you. Who knows? You could end up in an unexpected place with unexpected people.
8. Attempt Ziplining:
Ziplining is an activity found all over the world. In the U.S. alone, it’s present from Massachusetts to California and everywhere in between. This thrilling activity sends you soaring through the trees on a cable high off the ground. What’s not to love about that? Search HealingRadius.com

Among almost every body of water in the U.S., there is someone who rents kayaks or gives guided tours via kayak. Enjoying breathtaking scenery and navigating riverways is surely an adventure, especially when shared with friends.I decided to take up homesteading as my adventure, how to raise backyard chickens DIY soon to come. How was it? I met some really awesome people in the farming community, chased chickens around my yard, giving me an awesome excuse for why I was late to work, and built my own chicken yard. It was a lot of fun and I would highly recommend taking up your own adventure ASAP!Did you love learning about how to create adventures in your daily life?
