Healing crystals have been around for a while, to say the least. The use of talismans and amulets dates back to the beginnings of mankind and the first historical references to crystal use come from the Ancient Sumerians, Egyptians, and Greeks, all of whom used stones primarily for protection and health.
While the use of crystals for healing never fully went away, it’s safe to say they’re making quite the comeback. Crystals are everywhere, and if you’re looking to start a collection, we’ve got what you need to start!
As you research more and get an idea of what you want from your crystal collection, it will become more personalized to you. But to start, here are five essential crystals for any collection:
*A quick note about picking out your crystals: figure out your budget then buy one in whatever shape, size, cut, or polish speaks to you.
Amethyst, a key component to any crystal collection, is a type of quartz and the traces of iron and manganese it contains give it that lovely purple color. They’re a great stone of protection and purification as they rid the room of negative energy. Some people will even incorporate amethysts into their daily jewelry as a means of keeping “energy vampires” out of their personal space. Amethysts are also used to help treat addiction of all kinds.
Amethyst is a super high vibration stone and, because it’s connected with our sixth (third eye) and seventh (crown) chakras, it helps us tap into our intuition to connect us to higher planes of existence.
Citrine is another type of quartz, usually beginning as an amethyst or smokey quartz before it’s heated in the Earth’s core, turning it a champagne or deep iced tea color (mmm…anyone else getting thirsty?). It has a happy, creative energy that helps when we’re feeling down or need to get out of a creative block.
Citrine’s also great for a finance boost, as it’s closely associated with prosperity and abundance. This could be because it’s a stone of the third chakra, which is located at the solar plexus, or the energetic power center of the body. Harnessing this energy, with the help of citrine, helps you to stand firmly within your personal power and self-confidence.
Now here’s a quartz with quartz in the name! Clear quartz is known as the master healer in crystals and as a very powerful amplifier; it amplifies the energy, thoughts, and vibrations of other crystals and even yourself. It’s used to connect us with our higher selves, intuition, and spirit guides.
Green aventurine is another quartz that comes in mostly greens but can come up in other darker colors. Although, green is an appropriate color for it because this stone is all about vitality. It’s a common healing stone for just about anything: your health, growth, finance, confidence, relationships.
Rose quartz activates your heart (fourth) chakra to promote positive energy because its own energy is so calming, gentle, and compassionate. Rose quartz naturally enhances all types of love – self-love, love for others, and unconditional love. In doing this, it raises self-esteem, restores confidence, helps you become more emotionally balanced, and releases stress, tension, anger, and jealousy.
