Today, we’ve got the first in our four-part series all about astrology! We’ve talked a bit about astrology on the blog before, and now for the next few Fridays, we’re going to really dig into what all the fuss is about and why, for centuries, we’ve looked to the stars for answers.
But today: the basics! Figure out your zodiac sign below (if you don’t already know it), do any extra research you’d like, and we’ll meet you back here next week for even more star magic!
The Air Signs
First things first, there are 12 signs in the Western zodiac, broken down into four elemental categories: air, earth, fire, and water. Air signs are known for their communication skills and ability to build relationships as well as abstract reasoning. They’re analytical, friendly, and love intellectual discussions, social gatherings, and giving advice. Air signs can, however, be a bit superficial and can become cold if they don’t get their way.
Strengths: cooperative, diplomatic, gracious, fair-minded, social
Weaknesses: indecisive, avoids confrontation, tends toward carrying grudges and self-pity
The Earth Signs
The earth signs are the grounded ones of the zodiac, the most conservative and realistic of us all, but they can also be very emotional. Earth signs are very connected to our material reality and are known to stick by people through hard times. They’re practical, loyal, and stable, but can also become stuck in the mundane, becoming workaholics or hoarders and giving into petty behavior.
Fire signs are the passion players in the Western zodiac! Passionate and dynamic, fire signs can get angry quickly but they’re just as quick to forgive. They’re full of adventure and are generally physically strong and a source of inspiration for others. Intelligent, self-aware, and creative, fire signs are always ready for action.
Strengths: generous, idealistic, great sense of humor
Weaknesses: overpromises and under-delivers, impatient, can be undiplomatic
The Water Signs
And last but not least are the water signs, the sensitive and emotional ones. Water signs are highly intuitive but mysterious. They love profound conversations and intimacy and will rarely do anything openly. They’re very supportive of loved ones but can often be more impulsive than logical.
