9 Ways to Make Your Own Salad Dressing

What lunch could be more perfect in the summer than a salad? Light, crisp, refreshing, healthy!

Well, as healthy as a salad can get if you’re still using store bought salad dressing. Salad dressings made to ship and wait on shelves until you pick it up can be packed with salt, sugar, and preservatives, all of which can make that healthy lunch not such a great option anymore. But if you make your own dressing, you control how much salt and sugar go in and eliminate the need for preservatives by using fresh ingredients every couple of weeks!

Here are nine different delicious salad dressings you can make today:

 

1. Balsamic Dijon

  • 3 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 1 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 cup balsamic vinegar
  • Salt & freshly ground black pepper to taste

 

2. Caesar Dressing

  • 2 tbsp garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 cup canola oil
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • ¼ cup lemon juice (fresh-squeezed!)
  • ¼ cup mayo
  • Salt & freshly ground black pepper to taste

 

3. Catalina Dressing

  • 3 tbsp onion, minced
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp garlic
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ½ cup red wine vinegar
  • ½ cup canola oil
  • Salt & freshly ground black pepper to taste

 

4. Chipotle Lime

  • 3 tbsp agave nectar
  • 1 tbsp garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp oregano, minced
  • 1 tsp chipotle powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 cup canola oil
  • ¾ cup lime juice
  • Salt & freshly ground pepper to taste

 

5. Garlic Sesame

  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp scallion, minced
  • 1 tbsp oregano, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger, minced
  • 1 tbsp roasted sesame seeds
  • ½ cup rice vinegar
  • ½ cup peanut oil
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup brown sugar

 

6. Greek Dressing

  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp kalamata olives, minced
  • 2 tbsp oregano, minced
  • 1 tbsp garlic, minced
  • 1 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • ½ cup red wine vinegar
  • Salt & freshly ground black pepper to taste

 

7. Homemade Ranch Dressing

  • 3 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp dill, minced
  • 2 tbsp parsley, minced
  • 1 tbsp thyme, minced
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • ⅓ cup mayo
  • ¼ cup milk
  • Salt & freshly ground black pepper to taste

 

8. Honey Mustard

  • 1 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • ½ cup stone ground mustard
  • ½ cup honey
  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar
  • Salt & freshly ground black pepper to taste

 

9. Italian Dressing

  • 2 tbsp parsley, minced
  • 1 tbsp garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp oregano, minced
  • 1 tbsp basil, minced
  • 1 cup white wine vinegar
  • 1 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • Salt & freshly ground black pepper to taste

 

Now Make that Salad Dressing!

Once you’ve gotten all of your ingredients, pour them into a jar, screw the lid on tightly, and shake to mix! All the ingredients we’ve listed are enough to make 16 servings of each recipe and you can keep ‘em in your fridge for up to two weeks.
