4 Easy Ways to Make Your Own Hummus

MMM hummus! Not only is it delicious, it’s also a healthier alternative to most dips, which tend to be mayo- or cheese-based. And did you know it’s also super easy to make it at home? In fact, we’ve found four simple ways to make some really great-tasting hummus in your own kitchen!

So grab your food processor and some chips or veggies (we’ve provided a dipper suggestion on each recipe) and get ready to veg out!

 

Avocado Hummus

What You Need

14-oz can of chickpeas
1 avocado
1 clove garlic
1 jalapeño pepper, seeded
¼ cup cilantro
1 tsp cumin
1 tbsp lime juice
½ tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
Cilantro, chopped, to serve

What to Do

1. Using a 2-quart food processor, blend chickpeas, avocado, garlic, lime juice, and seasonings until smooth.
2. Slowly add in olive oil while blending until the hummus is creamy and smooth.
3. Garnish with chopped cilantro, diced tomatoes, and a drizzle of olive oil.
4. Enjoy with tortilla chips!

Classic Hummus

What You Need

14-oz can of chickpeas
2 cloves garlic
¼ cup tahini sauce
2 tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp cumin
½ tsp red pepper flakes
½ tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
2-4 tbsp water
Parsley, chopped, to serve

What to Do

1. Using a 2-quart food processor, blend chickpeas, garlic, tahini, lemon juice, and seasonings until smooth.
2. Slowly add olive oil and water while blending until the hummus is creamy and smooth.
3. Garnish with red pepper flakes, parsley, and a drizzle of olive oil.
4. Enjoy with pita!

Roasted Red Pepper Hummus

What You Need

2 red bell peppers, seeded and quartered
14-oz can of chickpeas
1 clove garlic
3 tbsp tahini sauce
2 tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp smoked paprika
½ tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

What to Do

1. Preheat your oven to 400℉.
2. Roast peppers on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet for 20-25 minutes, until the peppers are fragrant and the skin is charred.
3. Allow peppers to cool and peel away the charred skin.
4. Using a 2-quart food processor, blend the peppers, chickpeas, garlic, tahini, lemon juice, and seasonings until smooth.
5. Slowly add olive oil while blending until the hummus is creamy and smooth.
6. Garnish with finely chopped bell peppers and a drizzle of olive oil.
7. Enjoy with celery!

Spinach & Artichoke Hummus

What You Need

14-oz can of chickpeas
1 cup baby spinach
3 artichoke hearts
1 clove garlic
3 tbsp tahini sauce
2 tbsp lemon juice
½ tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

What to Do

1. Using a 2-quart food processor, blend chickpeas, spinach, artichoke hearts, garlic, tahini, lemon juice, and seasonings until smooth.
2. Slowly add olive oil while blending until the hummus is creamy and smooth.
3. Garnish with spinach leaves, chopped artichoke hearts, and a drizzle of olive oil.
4. Enjoy with carrots!
