After nearly a year of pandemic related quarantine and isolation, it’s not uncommon to feel a little sluggish and down. But since feeling sluggish isn’t exactly ideal, we’ve come up with six ways to help you get revitalized and re-energized to take on the new year!
Tap Into Your Inner Energy Flow
A great first step to revitalize your life is getting your inner flow of energy back in order. Alternative therapies like meditation, yoga, and qigong are known to enhance energy flow and restore good health to the body. A great way to get started with any of these therapies is to start doing Sun Salutations, a short yoga series, each day. The poses that make up the sequence increase vitality by stretching and twisting the core muscles.
Motivate Yourself to Exercise by Exercising
Further proof that everything in life is a cycle: the more exercise, the more energy you’ll have, the more you’ll want to exercise more later! This energy boost also helps improve our mood and it doesn’t take hours of sweating profusely to get it. Simple cardio (like a 15-30 minute walk) can get the blood pumping enough to get the oxygen moving through the body, to revitalize you and raise your energy levels.
Protein Is Your New BFF
High protein meals help satisfy and energize your body and mind. And while there are plenty of meats that are high in protein (steak, chicken and turkey breast, and salmon, tilapia, and halibut) there are plenty of non-meat, high-protein options to load up on. Greens like spinach, kale, collards, spirulina, and wheat grass have tons of protein as do eggs, cottage cheese, and Greek yogurt.
Vitamin D (The D Stands for Drive)
You’ve always heard to make sure to get enough vitamin D for your bone health, but did you know it’s also highly useful for improving your energy? Several research studies have shown vitamin D from the sun can improve muscle function, enhance your mood, and boost energy levels. All you need to do is get out in the sun for about 15 minutes each day to reap the benefits! We’ll admit, this is hard in the winter, so consider opening the windows or even taking vitamin D supplements.
Spice Things Up
Literally! Spices like curry powder, cumin, cayenne pepper, and cinnamon aren’t just flavor boosters, they’re energy boosters too! That’s because they’re full of antioxidants and powerful anti-inflammatory properties. So any amount of something spicy can help revitalize your health, energy, and concentration.
Get the Sleep You Need
There’s a reason we get tired and a reason we stay tired. Getting the sleep you need is important for repairing and rejuvenating your body and mind before it’s time to wake up again. Of course, if your sleep is restless, it’s not as beneficial so if you have trouble sleeping, check out these tips for getting a better night’s sleep.
